hi, i'm hailey. welcome to my cozy little corner of the internet ♡
i'm a nostalgic soul who grew up on games, anime, glitter, and the soft, sweet glow of the y2k era. it was a time of pure self expression, raw and real, filled with sparkly gel pens, glossy lips, low rise jeans, that flirty babecore energy, and a hopeful warmth of a better world that still tugs at my heart.
this space is where i reminisce, share my thoughts, gush over my loves. get comfy and explore with me.

likes: ice cream, tasty snacks, fashion design, designing lingerie + cute little accessories, modding consoles + tinkering with LEDs

interests: drawing, fashion, digital art, game design, photography, making music, coding, creating cozy lil sites + graphics, 2000s gaming, running communities + old school forums, the mind, plant + pond life, writing (since the early 2000s and never stopped)

dreams: to begin something meaningful in japan, a story, a game, a world shaped by my OCs, and let it ripple outward into something kind. japan feels like the heart of everything that inspires me... the warmth, the creativity, the way people build worlds with so much love. i want to create something there that reaches the whole world, something that makes people feel connected, seen, and safe... maybe even a tiny step toward the softer, peaceful world i always imagine ♡

how 343 ruined halo’s multikills

i wanna talk about something almost no one in the halo community ever brings up, and that's multikills and how 343 industries has quietly ruined them.

in the original halo games by bungie, multikills always used a strict 4‑second window between each kill. it was a tight, unforgiving timing that demanded precision and pushed players to make fast decisions under pressure, making every extra kill feel earned. in halo 4, 343 industries increased that window to 4.5 seconds. in halo 5, they pushed it to 5 seconds. for halo infinite, they kept the 5‑second base, but added a new system that increases the window by 0.25 seconds with every kill, capping at 7 seconds. this makes multikills easier to earn than ever before.

this change has major consequences. after a player earns a killpocalypse, which is 9 kills in quick succession, they now get a full 7 seconds to secure a killionaire. that's enough time to recharge shields while reloading behind cover. bungie never intended multikills to allow for that kind of reset. the original system rewarded players who pushed forward even when they were one shot, chasing the next medal because the window was so tight. it created tense, clutch moments that defined halo's multiplayer identity.

the increased timing window has erased that clutch factor. the urgency is gone. the risk is gone. the adrenaline that came from knowing you had only 4 seconds to secure the next kill has been replaced with a slow, padded system that hands out multikills more freely. 343 has never provided a reason for this change, and when fans ask, they are ignored.

medals are meant to celebrate skill and unique play. when you add too many medals for mundane actions or make the existing ones easier to earn, you dilute their meaning. you weaken the sense of reward. you defeat the entire purpose of medals in the first place.

this is another example of 343 changing core parts of halo that never needed to be touched. these changes are just attempts to differentiate themselves from bungie, not actual improvements. they keep changing systems that already worked, only to make them worse or more complicated. halo's medal system, which has always been a core part of the multiplayer experience, has been spoiled not just in design but in appearance too.

halo's multikills used to be a test of nerve and precision. now they're nothing but a watered down version of what they were, cheapened into participation trophies. and 343 is the reason that identity is gone.

This is exactly why old-school Halo felt so much more rewarding! Getting a Killionaire meant pushing through the chaos, not hiding and reloading until the clock gave you a freebie.

Honestly, I don’t mind the change. Having a bit more time gives room for smarter plays instead of just reckless rushing. But I get why purists aren’t happy

Great insight as always, Hailey. I miss when multi-kill medals actually felt earned. Now it’s like the game is throwing them at you just for existing. Makes them feel hollow.

I still remember my first Overkill and the achievement it gave. It was one of the last ones I needed for Halo 3. It had to be in the Ranked FFA playlist so you couldn't easily cheat it. I was playing FFA Oddball on Guardian.

The final kill was so tense. I was holding the Oddball, my shields were down, and I had placed a bubble shield right in the centre of the map which I was a sitting duck in.

A guy was playing the upper ramp and I needed him to come to me because I couldn't go out there or I'd get shot to bits. I ran forward, pretending as if I'd meet him and feinted the melee battle by falling back. He whiffed his melee which gave me enough time to leave the bubble and and take him out.

Kid me was so overjoyed that I don't even remember if I won the game afterwards, it didn't matter, I got an Overkill and I was over the moon.
