hi, i'm hailey. welcome to my cozy little corner of the internet ♡
i'm a nostalgic soul who grew up on games, anime, glitter, and the soft, sweet glow of the y2k era. it was a time of pure self expression, raw and real, filled with sparkly gel pens, glossy lips, low rise jeans, that flirty babecore energy, and a hopeful warmth of a better world that still tugs at my heart.
this space is where i reminisce, share my thoughts, gush over my loves. get comfy and explore with me.

name:

gender: female

loves: gel pens, butterfly clips, glitter, y2k fashion, gaming, theme parks, skate parks, and anything personalized to feel uniquely mine, like the way y2k girls used to glam up their phones with charms, stickers, rhinestones, and tiny LED mods

obsessions: glitter (basically my personality), scented gel pens, pink lip gloss, tight tanks, low‑rise jeans, anything y2k‑coded, early 2000s art + fashion, character design, hot girls esp anime + game babes, drawing + designing them for the aesthetic rush 💖

likes: ice cream, tasty snacks, fashion design, designing lingerie + cute little accessories, modding consoles + tinkering with LEDs

interests: drawing, fashion, digital art, game design, photography, making music, coding, creating cozy lil sites + graphics, 2000s gaming, running communities + old school forums, the mind, plant + pond life, writing (since the early 2000s and never stopped)

aesthetic: babecore, glittercore, a little goth/emo/scene, frutiger aero, y2k

fav hobbies: collecting gel pens + glitter stickers, replaying 2000s games

fav little figures: gundams, cute nendoroids, a few figuarts

fav music player: winamp

fav soundtrack: sonic adventure, dead or alive 2, halo, naruto, dbz, death note... honestly, too many to list

fav music: pop punk, punk rock, emo, 80s synthwave, lofi, moody instrumentals, nostalgia‑soaked beats, DDR tracks. i honestly vibe with whatever hits. genre doesn't matter if it feels right

fav era: 2000~2006. my golden era ♡

fav season: summer nights

i'm obsessed with leopard print, especially brown or hot pink. it's the sexiest blend of spicy and girly, and has that rebellious, lust‑kissed, seductive heat that screams hot girl confidence. it's peak babecore aesthetic and sexy as hell. polka dots are my other all‑time fav pattern but in a totally different way... soft, gentle, feminine, and sweet
i also love the emo, scene, and goth side of 2000s fashion with dramatic eyeliner, glittery accessories, black lace accents, and dreamy dark toned outfits that still feel flirty and expressive

dreams: to begin something meaningful in japan, a story, a game, a world shaped by my OCs, and let it ripple outward into something kind. japan feels like the heart of everything that inspires me... the warmth, the creativity, the way people build worlds with so much love. i want to create something there that reaches the whole world, something that makes people feel connected, seen, and safe... maybe even a tiny step toward the softer, peaceful world i always imagine ♡

why style will always beat realism in sonic games

i was scrolling through twitter the other day and saw people arguing about the visuals in sonic unleashed vs sonic frontiers. of course i had to jump in, so i ended up making a post about it there too.

one tweet showed off how bright and stylized unleashed still looks, even all these years later. the reply tried to counter with a sonic frontiers screenshot that leaned into ultra realistic scenery, with detailed grass and shiny water.

but instead of making frontiers look better, it kinda did the opposite. it was a reminder that high fidelity on its own isn't what makes a game feel good. art direction is what gives a game its personality and its soul.

you can push realism as far as you want, but if there's no character behind it, it just turns into visual noise. sonic's world was never about looking like real life. it was about color, motion, energy. it felt loud in a really nice way. it pulled you in.

the frontiers shot looks realistic, sure. but it also feels flat and empty. like it was built to show off a graphics engine and not to actually feel like a sonic space you want to run through.

frontiers feels like it's chasing realism for the sake of it, without asking if that look fits sonic. it tries to mimic the real world, but forgets how sonic games are supposed to feel. what made sonic stick with people was never "wow that grass looks real." it was how alive everything felt. the colors had attitude.

when fidelity starts to drown out personality, you end up with environments that look impressive in screenshots but disappear from your memory once you're actually playing. that's not immersion. it's more like an imitation. it feels like the series shifted from building worlds with heart to building landscapes with resolution, and honestly, it's just sad

think about sonic adventure. emerald coast wasn't just "a beach level." it was color and movement and energy. rolling waves. soft skies. the killer whale crashing through the water. it felt cinematic without trying to be realistic. same with city escape in adventure 2. the colors were pushed, the pacing was wild, and the whole thing felt electric. stylized, reactive, and impossible to forget.

sonic has always been at its best in worlds where style supports the gameplay. where the design choices are louder than the raw detail.

if realism alone was the flex, movies would stop using color grading, artists would stop having a style, and animation wouldn't need to exist. that's not evolution to me. it's more like erosion. the art direction gets pushed to the side and the game loses its heartbeat.

sonic unleashed is proof that you can have high fidelity visuals that still feel stylized and alive. it looked real enough while still keeping that bold sonic identity. if sonic adventure could deliver that kinda vibe on a dreamcast, it's fair to ask what frontiers' excuse is on modern hardware.

and this isn't about hating on one single game. it's about what makes a series actually stick with people. sonic's legacy is built on speed, style, and worlds that feel a little unreal. when realism starts to overpower the soul of it, even a technically impressive game can end up feeling kinda hollow.

i'm curious what you think. does style matter more to you than realism in games? and do you think sonic should lean back into bold, stylized art direction again?

Unleashed was art. Frontiers is a tech demo with rings in it lol.

More posts like this pls. Tired of graphics discourse that ignores FEELING. Game design is not a tech race.

I understand the nostalgia, but I actually think Frontiers was the evolution Sonic needed. I know not everyone will agree, but it's just how I feel.

Totally agree. Sonic was never about realism. Art direction is the most immersive element, and Frontiers missed that mark for me.

This is honestly such a refreshing take. Been tired of studios chasing realism without asking why. Stylized environments age better AND serve gameplay.

The part about Adventure 2's color and momentum? Yes! That game felt alive. You can’t replicate that with Frontier's realism.

Saw someone share this in Discord. Good points, but can we also admit the music in Unleashed was peak Sonic? Sound is just as important as visuals for immersion.

Nah man, Frontiers was beautiful to me. Yeah it leaned realistic, but it gave Sonic a new look. Not every game has to be full of colour.

Broooo this post is 🔥. Unleashed had a vibe. I've always tried to explain to people why Sonic's art direction mattered more than anything, and you just said it better than I ever could.

This honestly just made me sad. Like, Sonic was one of the few franchises that felt exciting. Now it just feels lackluster and boring.

Y'all keep hating on Frontiers but the game was relaxing. Just because it's not as colorful as the other games doesn't mean it's bad.

Fidelity can be jaw dropping too tbh, Cyberpunk 2077 still floors me with how believable the world is... but for sure it is more economical and pragmatic to choose style over fidelity. Fidelity is such a huge investment its just not worth it for indies or mid-sized companies.

Forever Winter strikes a really cool mix of the two.

couldn't have said it any better. i don't care if frontiers is technically more advanced than unleashed, it still looks dull and soulless. unleashed feels alive in a way frontiers never does, and its locations are fascinating to look at. sonic team hasn't topped that art direction in almost twenty years.
